Getting & exchanging course data

Load courses right inside the app, or import and export them as files.

Get courses instead of building them yourself

Setting up a course cleanly with hole sets, layouts, tee sets and ratings takes some work. Nobody needs to do that work twice: this website hosts a collection of verified courses, and NicerGolfJournal can export and import individual courses.

Loading courses right inside the app

Since version 1.5 you find the courses directly in the app. Open the course list, choose Import and then Search Online. The list shows all published courses, those of your country first. You filter by country and search by name, club or location.

Load

One tap on Load brings the course into the app. It is immediately ready for recording rounds.

Compare

If you already have a course with this name, the button reads Compare. The app compares the file with your course and adds what is missing. Afterwards it shows what was added, or "Nothing to Add".

No account, no data leaving your device

The list is only loaded when you open the window, never in the background. The app sends nothing in the process. Without a connection it shows the most recently loaded list with its date.

What "Compare" changes and what it does not

The app adds extra tees, layouts, hole sets and missing ratings. Everything you already have stays as it is, even if the file contains different values there. Your played rounds therefore keep using exactly the course definition they were played on.

"Nothing to Add" therefore does not mean that your course is identical to the file. If a rating or a hole length has changed, you adjust the value by hand in course management.

Importing and exporting a course as a file

Under Import and From File you import a course file that you received or downloaded from this website. In the other direction you export a single course as a JSON file with all hole sets, layouts, tee sets and ratings. Several courses can be exported together as a ZIP archive.

Course data on this website

The course data section of this website offers the same courses as JSON files.

Download

All course files are free to download, no account needed. The data is published under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Upload and report errors

With a free account you can upload your own course data or report errors. We check new files against the official scorecard before publication.

Before uploading

Please follow the upload guidelines on the website so that the data stays consistent and correct.
